Respect is the cornerstone of martial arts and a fundamental concept that involves honoring the worth and dignity of all individuals. Mutual respect is a central concept in the sport of judo. It fosters a safe and positive training environment.
We explain to toddler students that respect is 'kindness'. Our program encourages kindness, consideration, and empathy towards the self, others, and environment.
We practice respect during CRAWL Parent & Toddler Judo classes by listening to others, taking turns, and cleaning up. We also bow on/off the mat area, at the beginning/end of every class, and to one another. Bowing is an expression of gratitude, humility, and respect both in the sport of judo and in Japanese culture.
